Macrium Reflect Server

Application-consistent backup for Windows Server, SQL Server, Exchange, and Hyper-V — everything in Workstation, built for server workloads that can't tolerate data loss.

Built for Server Workloads

SQL & Exchange-Aware Backup

Application-consistent backups via Microsoft VSS. SQL Server and Exchange Server are quiesced before the image is captured, so backups are transactionally consistent, not just a raw disk snapshot mid-write.

Windows Server OS Support

Full support for Windows Server editions, not just desktop Windows. Server-specific roles and services are backed up and restored correctly, including domain controllers.

Hyper-V Guest Backup

Back up Hyper-V virtual machines with VSS integration for crash-consistent (or application-consistent, for VSS-aware guests) snapshots — protect the host and its guests without separate per-VM agents.

Image Guardian for Servers

The same kernel-level ransomware protection available on desktop editions, sized for server workloads — backup images stay protected even if the server itself is compromised.

Who Needs the Server Edition?

If you're backing up a machine that's actually running Windows Server — a domain controller, a file server, a SQL or Exchange server, or a Hyper-V host — the Workstation edition isn't built for that. VSS-aware, application-consistent backup matters for databases and mail servers specifically because a backup taken mid-transaction can be inconsistent even if the disk image itself looks fine.

IT consultants and MSPs managing multiple client servers should also look at Macrium's technician/portable licensing options rather than standard per-device licenses — check current terms on Macrium's official site.
